In recent years, Finland's popular LM Instruments have run an environmentally inspired campaign to reuse and recycle old and worn dental instruments.
Offering a substantial 30% discount on new LM Instruments as an incentive, dentists are encouraged to send in their old unwanted hand instruments, any brand and in
any condition.
The extensive range of LM Instruments are available through TrollDental and feature exceptional quality DuraGrade steel and comfortable, ergonomic silicone coated handles.
Instruments of reasonable quality are sterilised, sharpened and made available for use in dental projects in developing and developing countries via various charities and humanitarian organisations.
In previous years, instruments have been sent to Tonga, Indonesia, East Timor, Cocos and Christmas Islands, Vietnam, India and Nepal.
Those instruments which are past their useful life as dental instruments find new homes with various artisans and technicians from the region for a small donation.
Donations this year will be forwarded to Operation Cleft, a charity based in Victoria supported by Rotary, which funds cleft palate operations in Bangladesh and Laos.
